Singapore's non-oil domestic exports rose 2.2% in April
The increase was due to an expansion in non-electronic NODX, which outweighed the decline in electronic NODX, says IE Singapore.
SINGAPORE: Non-oil domestic exports (NODX) rose 2.2 per cent year-on-year in April, according to data released by International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) on Monday (May 18).
The 2.2 per cent increase was due to an expansion in non-electronic NODX, which outweighed the decline in electronic NODX, it said. This followed the 18.5 per cent increase in March, which was led by an expansion in both electronic and non-electronic exports.
The top contributors to the NODX growth in April were South Korea and the EU 28, the report added.
Non-electronic NODX expanded by 4.7 per cent year-on-year last month, following the 21.6 per cent increase in the previous month. The growth was led by structures of ships and boats, non-electric engines and motors and pharmaceuticals.
As for electronic NODX, it fell 3.8 per cent on-year in April, in contrast to the 10.4 per cent expansion in the previous month. The fall was largely due to parts of ICs, parts of PCs and consumer electronics, IE Singapore said.
Oil domestic exports also decreased by 34.9 per cent year-on-year in April, mainly due to lower sales to Malaysia, Australia and Indonesia. In volume terms, it grew by 1.7 per cent in the same month, following the previous month's 22.5 per cent rise, it added.
NON-OIL RE-EXPORTS (NORX) DECLINED
IE Singapore said NORX declined by 1.9 per cent year-on-year, due to a decrease in both electronic and non-electronic NORX.
Electronic NORX fell 2.1 per cent on-year in April , due to ICs, parts of ICs and parts of PCs, the data showed.
Non-electronic NORX, meanwhile, decreased by 1.6 per cent in the same month, due to piston engines, petrochemicals and precious stones and pearls, it added.
